Surrogate Bacterial and Air Sampling

Surrogate Bacterial and Air Sampling

Recent threats over the past several years have highlighted the need for rapid and reliable bacterial and air sampling.

Natural outbreaks of infectious diseases may occur without warning. In the last two decades, the world has faced three pandemics:

The 2002 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
In 2012 the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
2019-2020 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2)

To effectively protect our communities from natural outbreaks like the one we face today, it is critical to monitor the air and surfaces for the presence of surrogate pathogenic agents.

Allometrics Now Provides Surrogate Testing via Surface and Air Sampling

Fast, Affordable & Will Help Keep You, Your Staff & Customers Safer

As many of our clients operate within the food processing, clinics, hospitals, OR’s, and pharmaceutical industries, we set out to find ways to help them ensure their work environments are safe for staff workers as well as the general public.

For this reason, we’ve forged a strategic liaison with Aerobiology Laboratory to provide tests to check the bacterial count of any surface and to test air quality.

Surface area sampling can be instrumental in determining the bacterial population of an area. Wipe samples are the best way to test when bacterial growth is suspect, and the listing and identification of the exiting bacteria is necessary.

The surrogate testing can help evaluate the effectiveness of the existing cleaning procedures and protocols. Additionally, it can help assess if the staff is maintaining a low bacterial count on surfaces, or whether the air in a particular location shows little or no bacterial count.

We use the Test Code 2037 and 2037.1 when collecting surface area and air samples. The surrogate bacterial and air sampling test collects respiratory organisms, including:

  • Alpha Strep
  • Gamma Step
  • gnr
  • S. aureus

It’s important to note that at this time, we cannot test for the SARS-CoV2, the virus responsible for COVID-19 disease.

The surrogate bacterial and air sampling test provides an essential overview of bacterial count in a specific area. The information offers critical assessments on the risk of other viruses such as SARS-CoV and bacteria inhabiting the tested space.

Our turnaround for this service is 2-3 business days, which we believe is essential as early detection of infectious pathogens allows for the prompt intervention and treatment of exposed individuals, and it can help contain the spread of possibly deadly diseases.

At Allometrics, we continue to search for ways to help our clients maintain their safety standards during this health crisis. During this trying time, we remain your trusted partner and ally.

For additional critical information on this subject, please review the CDC.gov website.
